Advanced Physician J-1 Waiver Compliance

Can a Conrad Physician Moonlight for Another Employer?

The required Conrad employment must remain compliant with the approved full-time physician service. Separate work for another employer presents an additional H-1B authorization issue and should not be assumed to satisfy or substitute for the approved Conrad obligation.

The primary Conrad obligation remains in place

The physician must continue satisfying the approved full-time employment and three-year waiver conditions.

A second employer requires separate work authorization analysis

H-1B employment is employer-specific. Secondary employment should not begin merely because the physician already holds H-1B status through the Conrad employer.

Extra employment does not replace deficient Conrad service

Hours worked for an unrelated secondary employer should not be assumed to cure a shortfall in the approved 40-hour Conrad position.

State program restrictions may also apply

The sponsoring state's rules and the physician's contract should be reviewed before adding outside employment.
